Well well well, it has definitely gone by some time and I was completely absent again!!!! I’m sorry for my delays when it comes to write this blog, I promise I’ll get better as soon as time gets by and I get more used to our already beloved Tokyo…

By now a bit more then 3 weeks has passed by like the blink of an eye, but also it already seems like I’ve been here for already one year!!!! I guess that with all the new things that I’m seeing, hearing, living and doing, time goes by so fast but at the same time it is so intense.

Yesterday I went to pick up my Foreign Registration Card (actually called the ‘alien registration card’) this card is my ID here in Japan, and tells that I’m a legal ‘alien’ (foreign) here. Well the story here is, that on the first day in Tokyo here we went to the City Ward to start with this paperwork, and now it is finished, on that first day the little-old-volunteer ladies of my residence took us there, and I was completely lost and having my first sights of Tokyo, but now me and Mori (a friend from Malasia) we went there on our own. And It felt so good, by the time we got the card we realized that we had not needed the help of anybody to get there, that we got directions in Japanese without worrying not even for a second! It so amazing how we got used to this city, its public transport and its ways…great!!!

Before this ‘alien’ registration day, many things happened, within the university I must say that I’m doing good, I applied to enter the MBA in this September and I spoke to my professor advisor here and he told me that I shouldn’t have any problem to enter the MBA, nice, and he happens to be the chief of admissions. Apart from that, my Japanese classes are good and some of them I really enjoy, there is this class in which we learn from movies, it’s by far my favorite. I can now recommend the movie ‘April Story’ (‘Shigatsu Monogatari’) that tells the story of a girl from a little city in the north of Japan moving to the big city Tokyo to start her university here, and I felt identified as all the images shown are pictures of what I’m going trough, enjoy.

About the city, I’ve been to great places during this days, on one side, I’ve been to Odaiba the most modern area in Tokyo, and it felt a bit to a trip to the future, in there we could see The ‘Miraikan’ the museum of the future, filled up with all sorts of robots and the like. Also enjoyed the huge malls, that are far from being ordinary, there’s actually this one that is made to simulate and open sky in the ceiling and the entrance of the shops are like and Italian city of the past, completely artificial, like I’ve never seen!! (the pictures are in the second album in picasa) Also when there we visited the Toyota showroom and to wish I had a car!!! (I’m getting tired of the train here, but that’s a different story)

On the other side, I’ve went, together with a group of Japanese folks, to one of the oldest parts of Tokyo, Ueno. Ueno used to be the old city centre, and some of the old houses, are still preserved, like the one in Shitamachi Museum that we visited. We also got to see the temple surrounded with little stands serving all kinds of Japanese hot snacks, happily to be surrounded by Japanese I got the chance to get first hand explanations of the ways of behaving in the temple and the meanings of things. After that we headed to the ‘Ame Yoko’ (or ‘American path’) where there’s a fish market and cheap clothing stands, we got some grilled ‘ame yoko yaki’, here I’ll say it is like an omelet but it actually has nothing to do with it. We drank some mango smoothies and chatted about indie rock.

Today I’m headed to a football (soccer) match: FC Tokyo vs. Oita with Isamu, so you’ll see in my next post!

Ueno, Odaiba y la tarjeta del Alien

Acá empezamos de Nuevo y parece que ya se hace la costumbre de pedir perdón por tardar tanto en subir los posts!!! No se preocupen que ya pronto se estabilizaran, uno a la semana como lo tengo planeado, a medida que me vaya acomodando al ritmo de nuestra ya querida Tokio.

Ya pasaron un poco mas de tres semanas, parece como que hubiesen pasado en un segundo o en un año, todavía no me decido. Supongo que con todas las cosas nuevas que veo y vivo cada dia, no hay tiempo para nada, pero todo es mas intenso.

Ayer fui a buscar la tarjeta del ‘registro del extranjero’(que realmente se llama la tarjeta de registro del ‘alien’!!!) esta tarjeta es como el documento de identidad, y sirve para probar que soy un ‘alien’ legal en Japón. Bueno lo importante de todo esto, es que ya había ido a la municipalidad el primer día en Tokio con las viejitas voluntarias de la residencia, que nos llevaron a todos los becarios a empezar este tramite apenas llegamos. Esa vez yo estaba completamente perdido y mirando para todos lados viendo las calles de Tokio por primera vez. Pero esta vez fuimos con Mori (amigo de Malasia) nosotros solos. Cuando salimos de la municipalidad nos pusimos a pensar que habíamos llegado a la municipalidad solos sin ningún tipo de ayuda ni de problema, que habíamos preguntado como llegar en japonés, sin preocuparnos ni un segundo y solo pasaran 3 semanas! Increíble como nos acostumbramos a la ciudad, al transporte publico y a muchas cosas…genial.

Antes de esta historia sobre la tarjeta de ‘alien’, pasaron muchas cosas, dentro de la Universidad las cosas van bien, ya apliqué (mande unos documentos) para entrar en el MBA en septiembre, y hable con mi profesor tutor de acá que me dijo que no tendría que tener ningún problema para entrar. Y el es nada menos que el director de admisión!!!. Así que tranqui con ese tema. Con las clases de japonés también bien, algunas clases las disfruto mucho, hay una en particular donde vemos películas, leemos el guión y aprendemos de ahí, les recomiendo la peli ‘April Story’ (Shigatsu Monogatari) para tener una idea de lo que es para una estudiante del campo en Japón empezar las clases en Tokio en abril, y tener que adaptarse a el nuevo ambiente, me sentí identificado.

Sobre la cuidad, estuve en muy buenos lugares en estos dias, por un lado, estuve en Odiaba, el área mas moderna de Tokio, y es un viaje al futuro, ahí vimos el ‘Miraikan’ o el ‘museo del futuro’ lleno de robots y cosas de ese estilo ‘modernoso’. También anduvimos por los shoppings que son enormes y todos unidos por pasarelas con lucecitas. Uno de los shoppings por adentro simula ser como las calles de Italia con un cielo falso, una fuente, todo muy bien logrado pero tan artificial que da una sensación muy rara. De ahí al showroom de Toyota, y como me gustaria tener un auto! (Ya me estoy cansando del tren apretado de la maniana, pero eso es otra historia)

Por otro lado, Me fui junto con un grupo de japos de la facultad a Ueno. Ueno solía ser el centro de la cuidad en el pasado, y algunas de las casas siguen siendo preservadas. Como la casa que visitamos en el museo Shitamachi. Tambien pasamos por el templo y el parque lleno de unos stands de comida japo de todas las variedades, gracias a estar con locales me pudieron explicar como ‘funciona’ el templo, y los significados de las cosas ahí, como a lavarse las manos antes de entrar, y a aspirar un incienso supuestamente bueno para la salud. Luego de eso nos fuimos al ‘Ame Yoko’ un pasaje lleno de negocios, con un mercado callejero de pescado, comida y también ropa barata entre otras cosas. Ahí comimos ‘Ame Yoko Yaki’ que podría decirse que es como un omelet, pero en realidad no. Muy bueno. Después tomamos unos smoothies de mango y charlamos de Indie rock.

Hoy me voy a ver un partido de Futbol FC Tokio vs. Oita, con Isamu, asi que a verlo en mi siguiente post!!
